A Bear Belongs: A [true] rescue story

A Bear Belongs is the third in my Bloomsbury’s Conservation Series including Fourteen Wolves and A Tigers’ Tale. It is inspired by the true story of the release of three rescued sun bear cubs back into the Bornean rainforest where they belong. They were rescued from the illegal pet trade by world sun bear expert Dr Wong Siew, Founder of the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre in Borneo featured in this compelling and heartwarming story.

Dr Wong kindly shared Boboi, Tan-Tan and Kitud’s real life bear prints for reproduction this book, so beautifully and gently illustrated by Harriet Hobday. He also shared the real-data tracking of these three little bears after their successful release, four years after their original rescue.

In conversation with Dr Wong I have learned so much about their rehabilitation for rewilding and about their unique rainforest habitat. It is a joy to share these stories in the book - and with children in author visits schools.
