Let’s Discover Wildlife in Ghana
Let’s Discover Wildlife in Ghana is a ground-breaking international children’s book project inspiring protection of nature in Ghana for people and the planet.
The book is written by me with Project Partner Faith Barcroft; illustrated in Ghana by Jonathan Agyei-Peprah; with expert advice and collaboration from scientists and conservationists across Ghana. The authors are indebted Augustine Oti Yeboah and Prince Agri Pascal of Pangolin_Gh with whom this project was first envisaged, initially through conversations about pangolin conservation on social media and working together on field visits to Ghana in 2022 and 2024 :).
In November 2025, the first 2,000 copies were distributed, with the support of local networks including Edu-Spots, FREE to schools, communities and libraries in Ghana.
Highlighting ten endangered species Let’s Discover Wildlife in Ghana explores environmental threats and the ways in which communities are protecting wildlife for the benefit of people and the planet. The book introduces readers to scientists who are working to protect endangered species across Ghana. It inspires with ideas of how to get involved in caring for nature, with specific examples of conservation jobs in Ghana.
This ambitious project has been made possible with generous funding support from UK based charity Gower St. with additional funding from A Rocha Ghana and Herp Ghana. The book is printed by Adwinsa Publications Ltd in Accra.

Book launch, Accra, Ghana, November 2025
After many years’ collaboration, our book was launched with joy and celebration at the British Council in Accra, with local dignitaries, representatives of environmental organisations (including A Rocha Ghana who kindly sponsored this event); relevant government departments, scientists whose work inspired the book’s content, the book’s illustrator, publisher, local students and teachers and critically little Padre Pio (Team member Augustine Oti and Sylvia’s son) featured here, to whom the book is dedicated!
Book sharing
Faith, Augustine Oti Yeboah and I travelled for two and half weeks around Ghana to meet and distribute our books in rural schools and libraries in the communities of the ten scientists we worked with to develop the stories featured in the book. It was a fascinating, exciting and extraordinary journey. The book was embraced by the teachers and pupils, conservationists and scientists we met along the way. Much more about the critical community conservation work of scientists and conservationists here will be shared but in the meantime, these images give just a few highlights of this ongoing story.
